Leaving Town Part II: This Time, It's Personal

In the spirit of both travel and sequels, I'm leaving town once again.  This time, though, the trip is not bike-related, so while it is celebratory in nature you're unlikely to hear much about it on this blog when I get back.  While I'm gone, please take some time to check in with the Fat Cyclist and show him some support.  He's going through a very difficult time and I know he always appreciates visitors.  I'll return on Monday, May 19th with regular updates.

As always, thanks for reading and ride safe.  See you on Monday.

Such a benefits package, this blogging, to allow for so much paid time off.

Va bene.

No fair said CC, two stages in a day! I've only trained for one.

So one of the grandkids graduating from college in the midwest?

Travel safe, bring back photos and bling-bling-tchatzkies for everyone.

Happy...anniversary? is my guess.

You fucking idiots are bitching about Snob's post when you didn't bother to link to the other one. Reading about a guy losing his wife to breast cancer doesn't exactly call for podium taunts.

Snob, thanks for the link--he'll definitely get some love.

Thanks for the link Snob.
I've got nothing snarky to say,
but I did make a donation.

Support Fatty by buying a sharp new twin six fatcyclist jersey (arriving May 19)! Or if you're stone busted like me you can make a small donation through the button on his site.

cycle ninja,

Your self righteous anger ain't exactly setting the right tone either. Hows bout some positivity?

Surprised to see another post so early and unfortunately no snobbery. Next time just leave town without the note, much easier.

Anonymous said...

still no official cheese?

Anonymous said...

Looks like Ultra Rob (best...name...ever...) gets the same industry insider deals that RTMS gets.

http://www.ultrarob.com/deals/index.php

At least he's donating a couple days worth of commish to fatty.

Fatty's blog makes me happy and sad. I can't imagine going through what he and Susan are, but his stories remind me to tell my wife and kids I love them every day.

Snob, the carping about missing a day of your free service has just about reached critical mass. You have a lot of them hopelessly hooked. Time to start charging for it, before it turns into an entitlement.

Wow Snob,
It looks like a real fun event. We appreciate your commitment to providing up-to-date information regarding the national cheese.
For those of you in Seattle, be sure to scout the scene for a middle aged white guy with a cheese-cam.

Anonymous said...

OYE,

Ugh, not an event for the lactose intolerant.

Anonymous said...

and i guess with the goose being awarded that bravery citation, fois gras will be on the banned list. maybe someone will milk a goose(preferably a heroic one) and make cheese!!! yum. goose cheese, our national cheese at last!

Anonymous said...

Feel free to turn some amatuer snobbery loose on a large upload of biker pix from the Brooklyn Bridge this morning. If snobby biked in this morning, he's almost certainly pictured.

Anonymous said...

BSNYC, I'm disappointed with your grammar. Ride safeLY.

smartypants said...

Ban foie gras? What??

This is Long Island, not Chicago! Sheesh. Next thing you know, people are going to start claiming that our National Pizza needs to be three inches thick and baked in a pie dish.

ah,

Very true and the content's Bitter quotient was almost zero. But, the Snob value was right up there with the 'I'm going away for the weekend, but won't tell you guys (and gals) anything when I get back. Na, na, na" tone.

Now. now that makes me bitter.

apparently got an invite to ride a stage in astana's team car at the giro. not bad for plugging a bike shop. free flight as well. oh how easily the angry proletariat are bought and silenced. "let them eat their crappy goose cheese while i 'water' them from my balcony". hahahahaha

Anonymous said...

Except that doesn't sound personal or celebratory. Uh duy to you, sir.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:35, milk a goose? I'm pretty sure that geese don't have nipples, even heroic ones. On the other hand, goose semen makes for an incredible wrinkle cream for the face. The hard part is jacking off the goose.

Anonymous said...

Mmmmmmm! Heroic nipples......

(_8(|)

Anonymous said...

milked my first goose in nam. it was an asian monkey goose. try hanging a rtms medal around one of those wee buggers. webbed toes, ears AND nipples. wow them was the days. mmmmmm goose cheese.

bikesgonewild said...

...the bsnyc/rtms/maglia rosa is probably out there helping implement some wondrously amazing life saving plan to make life joyously better for kids, little old ladies & mankind in general...then, while he'll be very humbly self-effacing when he returns, we'll learn about about his good deeds from someone else & be all ashamed that we talked about jail n' cheese n' goin' ta italy n' goose nipples & stuff...

...or maybe not...

Anonymous said...

wishiwasmerckx,

The hard part is jacking off the goose.

Na, just need the right nipple wrench...

Bitter goose cheese is better.

Bicyclesonly --

Saw your photos of the Brooklyn Bridge commuters, saw someone I followed over the bridge this morning, but didn't see me.

It must be the invisible chamois cream I'm using.

Too bad.

This would have been the perfect opportunity to explain the utility of the baggy Lycra jersey.

bikesgonewild said...

...any goose, ah, "products" in that chamois creme, leroy ???...

Anonymous said...

If you're using the right kind of nipple wrench, the cheese should not be bitter.

Unless of course you don't call the goose the next day like you said you would.

bikesgonewild said...

...ah, frilly...i'd admit that your post was the best laugh of the day....

...but i hate to enjoy it too much when perhaps your mock was just a little too deep rooted in reality, hmmmm ???...

...nonetheless, good stuff...

Anonymous said...

Oh, frilly I am so sorry I didn't call. Really I meant to, but, ah, some fit guy, ah, on a fixie with, ah, green aerospoke wheel, er, asked to try my cell phone and,well.., I let him. Really that's how I lost your number.

Give it to me again and we'll set something up. Really I'd like to make it up to you.

I've got some new nipple wrenches.

Anon 4:23

Anonymous said...

No, of course not, post based solely on what I've heard from others.

I personally have never been nipple wrenched.

Anonymous said...

anon 4:23

A fit guy, you say?

Keep your wrenches in your toolbox.

Could this be BSNYC/RTMS hmself?

The avian world regurgitate to feed their young so the idea of nipples, wrenches and subsequent milk from geese just won’t fly. Plus I just goosed my goose and found no such apparatus. Mind you I did have a GF nicknamed Goose but that is another story. Sorry to burst your fantasies. So the search for suitable milk for cheese production continues

bikesgonewild said...

...come on now, why do you think they call them, like us, 'mammals' ???...

...mmmmm, now yer gettin' closer...

Anonymous said...

Well, there's always fromunda cheese...

Anonymous said...

So, nurse Fokker, you think you can milk Mr. Jinks here? After all, he has nipples, doesn't he?

smartypants said...

Hey anon 4:23:

Sorry I stole your cell. If you want it back, swing by in that new car of yours - I'd like to try that out, too.

Frilly:

No geese were harmed in the manufacture of the invisible chamois cream.

I must be the first to have seen RTMS in VELONEWS!!! Not a pithy little quote on that page that has cartoons and shit, but the whole At the back column. The man is a media giant. Bike shop opening, cheese festivals, print columns in "America's Best Obsessive Bike Racer or Wannabe Journal". At The Back with New York's Bike Snob.

The editor must be like 80.

Anonymous said...

But smarty, without your pants you'll just be a dumbass.

I'll have the boys bring the car around. They's love to take youse for a ride.

Anon 4:23

Anonymous said...

I like swarthy latinos and no, homemade tatoos are not a turn-off. I'll be ready at 8:00.

Smartypants-BTW, I would consider myself part of segment 4.

Dave Z broke his back.
Really it was just a vertebrae.
Still, not a good day.

I know, equally lame.

bikesgonewild said...

...leroy...glad to hear that but i was more concerned about how many of the geeses (gooses ???) were waddling around w/ big goosey smiles on their little beaks...

smartypants said...

A question I ask:
Frilly, are you a robot?
Your haiku is betterthanmine.

(errr, that last part is said really fast so as to comprise only a single syllable.)

I am seriously in mourning for DZ. I will unashamedly admit that he is one of my favorite cyclists right now. At any rate, it's sad to see anyone with this sort of injury. I'm thinking about showing my support by penning on a fake mustache at my next race (two weeks! woo hoo), since his teammates refused to do so.

anon 4:23:

If I am without pants, then the fun is just beginning! (for me at least. . .)

Anonymous said...

Smartyp,

The DZ news is very sad. I was looking forward to following his racing this year. My disappointment pales in comparison with what he must be going through. I hope he has a full and quick recovery.

As for your observation as to when fun begins - it seems you are a acolyte of the Wood Allen school "...practice a lot when alone."

Anon 4:23.

P.S. The boys just called, they are out front waiting for you.

I am reminded of a defense my cousin Loophole once mounted.

"Your Honor, if that goose didn't welcome my client's attention it would never have let him dress it in that provocative manner."

On second thought, maybe using "mount" to describe the defense was a poor word choice.

I think poor Loophole's client's goose was cooked.

bikesgonewild said...

...that, sir, was funny...if yer cousin 'loophole' was any less effective & i thought i could succeed , i'd sue you for 'undue physical stress'...i honestly laughed so hard i started choking...
...however, to the dismay of some readers, i did recover...

Smarty,

I am so not a robot.

I'm not a huge Dave fan. But, a crash is always scary. I'm not a huge fan of Slipstream, period. However after hearing about Millar throwing his bike over the barrier...oooh, that is rock star.

And don'tcha know I'm trying to get my Chris Horner stalker/Astana groupie career going.

bikesgonewild said...

...ya know, frilly, you could go a long way to gettin' closer to a particular pair a' bib-shorts if you were good enough w/ yer 'feminine wiles' to sweet talk christian prudhomme into lettin' astana into le tour...

...not to imply that yer that kinda girl but i'm sure you'd get all yer pumpin' & wrenchin' needs done tout de suite, comprenez vous ???...

...of course, i speak only of the bike...

Anonymous said...

Mais oui, just like any other woman, I have pumpin' and wrenchin' needs. Bien sur, my bike can always use a good "going over".

Je comprends, peut-etre I will just send msr. prudhomme a short little note & photo. Of my bike.

Give Millar some credit. Read Velonews' story about all the Giro transfer troubles:

Slipstream-Chipotle has had its fair share of hassles associated with the chaos that is the Giro.

Following its victory in the team time trial Saturday, the team bus got lost in the maze of streets in Palermo. After nearly two hours of combating traffic, someone realized that their prizes included a Garmin GPS device. David Millar opened up the package and punched in the team’s hotel and they were home in no time.
