BSNYC Friday Fun Quiz

Sorry (not really) to be late (not really), but I treated myself to some much-needed saddle time this morning:

It's hard to believe that it's been over two years already since I took delivery of the Milwaukee, and my fondness for it has only increased during that time.  At this time of year the bike goes fenderless, and I'm taking advantage of the additional clearance to run/rub/palp some 32mm tires inflated to exactly [X]psi instead of my usual 28s.  (There's no way I'm disclosing #whatpressureyourunning, or my proprietary tire pressure algorithm which involves daily weighings as well as occasional soil-tastings.)  Other features include an EH Works tool roll (go ahead and buy two, you deserve it), as well as a genuine MA2 rim on the front:

I dug these rims out of a bike shop basement many years ago because they were the official Jobst Brandt-approved rim and even though I was still a dyed-in-the-Lycra Fred and these were considered old and heavy his curmudgeonliness spoke directly to my soul.  Sadly, the rear rim is no longer with us (probably due to a sub-par non Jobstian wheel build which I was not responsible for), but the front is still going strong--which is not really saying much since pretty much any front wheel will last roughly forever.  As for the rear, I rebuilt it some years back with a cheap polished rim of similar dimensions, and I daresay silver wheels lend a bicycle a certain dignity which is absent from today's flashy wheelsets.

And now, I'm pleased to present you with a quiz.  As always, study the item, think, and click on your answer.  If you're right you'll know, and if you're wrong you'll see a good old-fashioned fixie fail.

Thanks very much for reading, ride safe, and may all your rides be bicycle rides.

First! But Snobby was late and missed the awards podium.

Well, 2nd and third, then.

Awesome bonus. Someday though, a squirrel or dog will run out, he'll reach for the brakes but hit the canvas, and lose an ear in the ensuing crash. Then it will be art.

Not all police are pigs said...

It is a bummer that the Collision Investigation Squad would lie about the Citi Bike rider "swerving" even when there is direct eye witness and video evidence to the contrary. But that is what the lyin' pigs do.

At least they refer to polo players as "men" this time. said...

The fashion world has an uneasy relationship with bike polo. It is sort of an edgy new (to them) thing. But it is also fairly non fashion conscious. A previous big fashion analysis of bike polo was pretty critical of the "boys" who play bike polo.

...I know many of this city's blocks because of the construction projects I have had all over over the years.

...unfortunately, I also know many blocks as places where fellow cyclist have fallen to the motor overlords.

...this last one was on my office block... it will be a daily reminder now.

...be safe y'all.

Crashing your fixie is part of the fun.

My dog tells me I could have been on the podium today, but I spent precious minutes watching a video of paint drying.

I told him I regret nothing.

I also asked him if he'd taste test a soil sample to help me obtain optimum tire pressure seeing as he's not particular where he puts his snout. I've seen how he and his buddies greet each other.

Of course, I didn't mention that today's commute took me under the bridge near the UN where no one would suggest having a snout is an asset.

But I did tell him about the gentleman of a certain age with a European accent who checked out our Milwaukee near the UN and told me about the Campagnolo drivetrain and Brooks saddle he used on his custom steel frame in the '80s.

Ride safe all!

On July 8, HBO will debut "Tour de Pharmacy," a mockumentary about the 1982 TdF.

There is an all-star cast, including a cameo by none other than Lance Armstrong.

The trailer looks really, really good...

I took today off from the grind, and went for a long spin on my steel framed lawn mower this morning. Laps around the house and drinking tallboys of beer sure beats the 9-5.

And now it's nap time.

Come to think of it, I have a lot of Mavic products -

Module E, MA2, MA3, CXP21 Red anodized of course, CXP33 - unused, red anodized of course, a few Helium wheelsets (which I will not use yet, due to my extreme fatness), used to have GP40s on my Merckx years ago.

Ah, Mavic MA2s. Great rims indeed. Anybody have a pair of NOS 32H E2/MA2 they're willing to part with for a vintage bike I saved from a life of singles-peed drudgery?

Snob, you are a retrogrouch. Be proud of it.

I dropped out after a dick brake cut off my ear.

Oddly enough it was during the shaving while cycling while painting stage, but the straight razor didn't get me.

Glad I missed the next stage; the sculpturing a life sized bear oot of a log, is a real bear.

Vincent, I didn't realize you were Canadian.

I have a magic cxp 30 on my commuter (weighs a ton) and 36 spoke cxp 33's on the back of the Fred bike. (Reflex in the front)

I broke a reflex in Central Park when a French disco roller blading tourist boogied into me (it was the 90's) he looked at my potato chipped rim and said, oh! Wet is franch! Ref you step on Rey, you can straighten Rey out! (No)

Mavic, not magic

Important observation: Silver bike parts in general are far classier than that black crap they sell today.

Wow! That bicycle painter claims to be riding along a flat, coastal California bike path, but I know better. Video trickery made that path appear to be flat, but his extreme huffing and puffing bore witness to the path's actual 15% grade. How he did in no-handedly attests to his extreme fitness. Very inspiring, WCRM!

Painting a nude while she sits on your stem is the best stage.

On the other hand the tapestry stage is one long haul.

But he has his fancy men's wearhouse sweat wicking suit to wear, so he has that going for him.
So, what's more important on the bikeen misery index, dew point or relative humidity?
Temperature being the same.
I'm going with dew point.

Why has no one mentioned Donald Trump yet?

dop said...

Dew Point sounds more erudite than relative humidity (which sounds like your sweaty cousin). In France, they follow the DuPont.
