You'll be pleased to know that both my Nova Eroica bike:
And my Classic Eroica bike:
Performed with aplomb.
I attribute it all to the pie plates.
Anyway, rest assured I'll provide a thorough accounting in a forthcoming Outside feature, and maybe on the way to the airport I'll swing by a few film studios to pitch my treatment for "Eroica California: The Movie!" It's an animated children's feature about an elephant seal who painstakingly restores a Hetchins, dons a retro-style jersey made from kelp, and competes the ride--while teaching us all to love each other in the process:
I smell an Oscar--though that might just be seal flatulence.
So stay tuned.
I love you,

ReplyDeleteDork Rings on those real wheels, both bikes!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing the world's smallest violin.
ReplyDelete"...about an elephant sea..."
ReplyDeleteThe photo is of, as fr as I can tell, female elephant seals.
Well done fellow Pinniped Fred.
Rode past a whole bunch of wind turbines (apparently now known as windmills) on Saturday. Still here.
ReplyDeleteJesus, get some WD 40 on that univega cluster
ReplyDeleteTan Tenovo gave us his seal of approval.
ReplyDeleteE parlando di italiano, un commento in esso andrebbe oltre la moderazione?

ReplyDeleteYou're still here, for now. However, riding past the windmills caused you to undergo fundamental changes at the cellular level. As you read this, tiny illegal aliens are invading your body's cells and advocating for things which Real Americans find abhorrent, such as a fact-based worldview.
California is great for riding but dammit, I'd rather live in NYC. It's got everything !!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your west coast travels.
Dibs were claimed, free bikes were gotten? Passive voice was claimed? Pretty cool Univega and a... “murdered out sick whip” as the kids said in the recent past. I’m old enough to still be surprised aero levers are okay in the Eroica, but then they did appear well over 30 years ago.
ReplyDeleteQuirky old bikes are more fun : )
ReplyDeleteLove you too. <3
ReplyDeleteOh that was YOU who offered me that bike when we parked next to each other in the field. I hope it found a good. home!
ReplyDelete"Eroica California: The Movie!"?
ReplyDeleteJudging by the photo, "The California Elephant Seal Massacre" might be the more accurate title.
Ok, very nice...but did you meet Juliet Elliot?
ReplyDeleteStop being a hero, Snob. Just admit defeat already and move to Cali. You know you want to.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice ;)
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteActually, that Univega is pretty nice. Decent calipers and drivetrain and shifters on the downtube where God and Tullio Campagnolo intended. I'm assuming the Cambium did not go to the dibs-caller.
I'm digging the Univega. It fits you better than whatever you were riding last year.
ReplyDeleteMy dog keeps poking me in the ribs and insisting I type "Dibs."
ReplyDeleteI told him it won't work, but he's not going to stop until (ouch, quit it) I (ouch, I said quit it) type (ouch, I'm typing it, I'm typing it) Dibs.
(Ouch, WTF, I typed it.)
okay, I give up, what is the stealth bike? Digging the Tourney, I'll bet you had fun on that bile!
ReplyDeleteCali is fine for a visit when its not shaking or burning or sliding or traffic or traffic or traffic
ReplyDeletehey - i always wanted a Hetchins!!
ReplyDeleteEarly GTs they were - triple triangle in 1950 or whatever
wle
Or a Thanet Silverlight
ReplyDeleteanother triple triangle/'hellenic seat stay' bike
