Ride Safe This Weekend!

Just an uncharacteristically thoughtful note quick note to wish everyone happy riding this weekend.

I've not been riding quite as much as I'd like these last couple of days, but we did manage a quick spin around the neighborhood yesterday:

And I also worked in a tri-borough Brompton Night Ride, which is something everyone should do now and again, as the city by night is always inspiring:

I hadn't undertaken any long-distance Bromulations in a little while and in doing so was reminded what an agile and capable city bike it is, even with its handlebar bag loaded with sundries.  The two-speed drivetrain is also ideal: you've got your crusing-down-the-avenues gear, and then you've got your riding-over-the-bridge gear.  Speaking of riding over the bridge, as I approached mid-span on the Queensboro Bridge I noticed a number of cyclists were stopped and gazing out over the mighty Queens skyline:

So I joined them and was treated to a brilliant fireworks display:

See?

This town will gut you emotionally but then throw you the occasional bone to keep you from losing it entirely.

What a racket.

  2. You can run over and kill a small child in your freedom machine and then just drive away with no consequences. What kind of cowardly monster does that? Oh, I forgot. This is America. America hates children.

  8. holy f'ing god. i missed the link to the horrible news article in my first glance...that's absolutely awful.

i'm not big on the marching and the protesting...but at some point when does this b.s. system that protects cars at literally all costs start getting enough attention to actually change this bat shit status quo?

  9. Stay off the aero wood. Wenge is toxic. Maybe worse than poison ivy. Beware.

Buffalo Bill - no, the Brompton is covered under the "evaluation" exception. Brompton expects they will be getting it back after Snob wins the Brompton worlds ...

Also excepted, Renovo and apparently now the Drysdale. Also the Workcycles gets a pass as it is necessary for snobling transportation duties. This leaves Milwaukee, Ritte, Ironic Orange Julius, and Engin as bikes that will theoretically require Snob to do laps behind the fieldhouse.

    Did I miss any?

If you ever get the chance to ride a 2 speed kick-back* hub, you will find the same gear ratio benefits, without the need for cables nor a shifter. If it includes a coaster brake, that's another lever/cable you can get rid of.

(Not the Tammany Hall type kick-back.)

  17. The Drysdale, while no doubt a nice ride, looks like someone has hit the wall with it. The fork just doesn't look quite right.
