This Just In: RTMS Invited to Media Thing!

Yes, that's right. The blogger-turned-street art phenomenon formerly known as "BikeSnobNYC" received an invitation yesterday via email from the Great Trek Bicycle Making Company to listen in on a "company update" via conference call. However, due to technical issues, scheduling issues, and general RTMS ineptitude, I was unable to listen. I was, however, able to take screenshots of the simultaneous video presentation. I showed up late, and I couldn't hear anything, but these should give you some idea of what was being discussed:

(Greg LeMond is apparently being annoying again.)

(Greg LeMond is apparently being litigious again.)
(Apparently it's a great day to be working at Specialized.)
OK, so it would appear that Trek and LeMond are having a slap fight and parting ways or something. There's some sort of Q&A thing coming up with John Burke, though I don't know if I'll be able to participate. I'm sure the legitimate cycling press will be able to fill you in. Frankly, the most noteworthy thing about this to me was that the Great Trek Bicycle Making Company included me. I guess that makes me part of the "media" and not just some smartass with a free Blogger account.

congrats FKABSNYC/RTMS! while you have always been legitimate and a font for all news cycling, I, for one, am glad to see you are recognizing the fact that you are ALSO "just some smartass with a free Blogger account".

Is the RTMS/APPROVE graphic available as a spoke card?

FKABSNYC/RTMS did you know that the Great Trek Bicycle Making Company has been using you to push their product all ready, Check out the 3rd review down at the bottom.

Yep, it's true... someone's using BSNYC's review comments to peddle.

OOOOoooo...a Trek insider, that's like saying you sleep with a Hollywood starlet and then find out it's Rosie O'Donnell.

Someone at Trek gave Greg bad touches.

My neighbor's dog told me to apologize to you all for being mean yesterday...

Sorry, was reading the fuel 9.0, which is .0 mo' better than the fuel 9, and missed the point.

Yes! I need a RTMS Approved laminated spoke card.

How I have lived this long without one is an unwise tempting of fate.

I say we lobby Trek to market one.

For a small fee, I bet the artist formerly known as BSNYC would give Trek a license to affix them as standard equipment on 2008 Madones.

Webcasts are also an excellent way to reduce the carbon emissions associated with travel to news conferences, provided that you don't throw away your computer at the end of the conference.

Anonymous said...

Yep your and Ass alright, but a funny Ass at that!!

Anonymous said...

Commiecanuk: it's time for your own blog. Here's an idea...you just post a blog that references all of your past comments on BSNYC; and then instead of posting anymore comments, you use your own blog to comment on BSNYC's blog, thus saving us all a lot of time and cutting through the bullshit that is other people's comments.

Anonymous said...

i have to be honest, if thefutureofamerica is the actually the future of america, I'm leaving.

Anonymous said...

Hey I found a really cool spoke card on the internet!

I'm going to use it with my posts.

Or would that be like a fat guy wearing a polka dot KOM jersey?

(Oh okay, just kidding. I wouldn't presume to keep using the RTMS Approved seal without approval.)

RTMS, you technical imcompetent, you. Speaking of which, when I put the little arrow thing over the pictures it turns into a little hand thing. But then when I click the little hand thing, nothing happens.

And Who's Jim Burke? Didn't the Drek founder guy just die? And by the way, who cares about a high school spat between Drek and LeMound? Really, apart from the employees, sellers, & a fellow* I know who has "5200-Trk" as a licence plate, who cares?

Gah, just, GAH! OK?

*Following yesterday's hilarious post, I submit said fellow is either charged $0 or $100** per city surcharge.

**Depending on the diagnosis from a specially convened panel of people who have nothing better to do.

I feel bad for LeMond. Think of the depths you would have had to have sunk to in order to make an agreement with Trek. I feel like such a whore just thinking about it.

But then again, whores do have a lot of power- it's just usually over Johns with such little self-respect that they would purchase said whore's services. So is it really power, or is it just the ability to capitalize on a need in the market: i.e. a bunch of ugly guys with money who aren't creative enough to figure out how to get a FWB, so they pay for it?

Did I lose my train of thought? Oh yeah, the whores. Unless you were a great, elite whore, like one of those in the past. Hey Rip Mug, being an insider and everything like you are, do have access to the really top-shelf whores? Are they all they are cracked up to be? Are the educated in the arts? Politically savvy? Emotionally stable? As skilled in the arts of love as they are skilled in the bedchamber?

How did I start off on this? Is anyone following this? Didn't it have something to do with LeMond? Am I asserting that LeMond uses upperclasss whores for his business model and that's why he is fighting with Trek? Is Trek really a Pimp?

I think most whores are on performance enhancing drugs. How could you not be? I mean, as a whore and all.

What was the post about again?

Rally an RTMS/APPROVE sticker would be so cool on the Sienna with the multi-sport roof rack. Ooh and one on the kayak, and and one on the ski box, oh! and one on the sailboard. But I think it would clash with the Orbea's color scheme so none on the bike.

Snob,
Dude, whatever else you do for a living you should take advantage of those conference calls. Life is long, and networking can lead you to many places you cannot even imagine now.
But, I'm talking like some old Capitalist, so pat me on the head and adjust my comforter.
Besides, companies as big as Trek serve a good purpose: many people come to bicycling through them who later go on to support the small frame builders.
But, shit, I'm way too serious again. Slap me. I just figure if you see a buck on the ground you should pick it up. A buck is a buck.
Anyway, its your 15 minutes in the spotlight...soak it up.

Not only do you get an invitation to Trek Bicycle Making Co.'s pow-wow, but you are also quoted in the latest edition of Velo News that arrived in my mailbox yesterday. It's true--the section that has quotes from cycling personalities (can't recall it's real name at this point).

...so lemme get this straight...yer name once came up in a one-time review (undoubtedly mocking) of a trek bicycle making company product & due to the vagaries & storage capacities of computer systems, you are now forever associated w/ the brand albeit in a obscure manner...
...this invitation to an on-line press conference may only be the beginning...stay remote but be attentive & play yer cards right & w/ in the year, you could be getting john burke signed pay checks for no more contribution than simply being fkabsnyc/rtms...

...i knew you were good at this, sir, but i'm beginning to see genius emerge...hmmm, stock options & eventual 'board of directors' ???...be patient, the trek world is yer oyster...

I passed a fat guy wearing a polka dot KOM jersey yesterday. I wasn't even pedalling, my 30lb dog was pulling me to the beach. The fat guy was riding one of those $3000 folding bikes with 16" wheels and a roloff internal gear hub.

Houseman nailed the conundrum LeMond and other retired greats (like Andy "lemme tell ya about the Gavia" Hampsten) face in "To an Athlete Dying Young."

Smart lad, to slip betimes away,
From fields were glory does not stay. . .

Now you will not swell the rout,
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran,
And the name died before the man.

LeMond says a lot of smart things from time to time and his accomplishments are unquestionable but when he periodically puts on his Bobby Knight mask it steadily diminishes the stature of his earlier accomplishments.

bikesgonewild said...

...fully agree, jim...i'll always have a great respect for greg lemond's celebrated accomplishments but jeez, the guy is so good at watering down his own champagne...

Anonymous said...

...bgw...true that, question is, why the need for trek to make such a public b*$ch slap of lemond, they've put that ppt and other legal briefings on their site. Is this to say 'down and stay down'?

AnnaZed said...

Just cause the Great Trek Bike Company says that Greg needs to stay down, doesn't mean that he will (Trek is played here by actor: Adam Fogerty)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHYGliJuHHk

I'm just sayin'.

Don't kid yourself, you're just a guy with a free Blogger account.

bikesgonewild said...

...erv & annazed...i don't think the message is "down & stay down" but "out & stay out"...

...lemond's lawyers cast the first stone after perceiving that trek has not been supportive as of lately, w/ the lemond brand...trek's reaction, considering lemonds continued outspoken remarks through the years is to rightly divest themselves of the problem...

(1) mr armstrong has in the past & still does represent a bigger financial model for trek than mr lemond...
(2) while mr lemond established his own bona-fides as a bike racer, it was trek who established the lemond brand as a major financial (top 5 @ one point) success...the lemond brand has been around for a long time w/ various manufacturers as a quality 'name' but w/ nowhere near the financial gain provided by trek...
(3) thusly, the suggestion is: mr lemond, restart your own company w/ out our support because *A*-you're pissing on our brand & *B*-you're pissing on your own brand...& regardless of how you think your opinions are perceived, frankly people are tired of your denigrating remarks & your business is down by your own hand, not ours...

...i'd suggest searching through the 'media' link @ trek regarding this matter...there are probably hours of reading but check out lemond's paper initially served to trek...fast forward through the legalese & while you've seen some of the material in the trades before, i guarantee fascinating reading...

...when i first heard the the news, i had a cartoon vision of greg twenty years down the line...ol' man lemond is standing out in his yard, belt pulled up around his chest, waving his cane in the air, shouting out "you kids get offa my lawn & i coulda won seven, god dammit !!!"...

Anonymous said...

Hey BKW does that even remotely mean that it would be chance that the Great Droid Cycling company are putting down the old brown bull and dragging a new feisty bull into the ring. Even more important do I get a chance to ride a bright yellow bike with LiveStrong all over it .Tasty Huhh. Suppose they have to find a stable for the old fella to roam around and ride tall bikes and hang with nice looking young things

bikesgonewild said...

...andy pandy...i think lemond's actions speak for themselves as regarding his bull(shit) being led into the trek abattoir...
...& while cannondale & specialized have undoubtedly benefited through having their bikes in the pro peleton for years, i would honestly love to know just how much trek benefited from seven tour de france wins...

...i'm betting the lance gets to write his own ticket regarding what he wants to build...a few years out of the peleton to wash away the associated 'drug thing' & the strengthening the good of the 'livestrong' relationship & ya, i think chances are prob'ly real likely you'll be on that yellow 'livestrong' bike before too long...
...will that be a grin or chagrin on yer mug ???...

Anonymous said...

BGW, respect to those who do the yards and both clearly have. The thing that sours is that just like an ugly divorce it will become a fight over who gets the family canary , and only after the legal buzzards have picked the carcass clean. As for riding a big yellow canary with shimano and bontrager gear all over it, I think my loyalties will remain on nude carbon from north of the border

bikesgonewild said...

...ah, i assume you ride a mount from the stable of sir velo from more specifically la province' de quebec...

...a well known spa & horse-track famed town in upstate ny provided my ride w/ her birth, but she's fittingly cloaked in gear blessed by a pope...

...& i never for a moment thought that you would want to ride a yellow turkey, excuse me, canary, clad in samurai gear...
